Abstract

Abstract

Background: Healthy aging emphasizes the importance of functional abilities such as mobility and decision-making. The global elderly population is predicted to increase significantly by 2050, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. However, aging is not always accompanied by good functional capacity, including balance disorders, which can be caused by cognitive decline. One of many promising physiotherapy methods to address this issue is Perturbation-based Balance Training (PBT). Methods: This study employed a pre- experimental design with a pre- and post-test model. Participants who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria received physiotherapy interventions in the form of PBT, conducted twice a week for four weeks. Results: There were 8 participants in total, consisting of 4 males and 4 females. The average age of the participants was 70.13 years. Bivariate analysis conducted on the post-TUG and pre-TUG results showed a significant outcome, with p = 0.019. Conclusion: The time required to complete the TUG test decreased after receiving PBT intervention for four weeks. PBT had an effect on dynamic balance in elderly individuals with cognitive impairment at the Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center in Bekasi City.
