Abstract

Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common syndrome due to excessive load and movement of the hands. Symptoms of this case include wrist pain, paresthesia, numbness, tingling, and weakness in grip. Nerve gliding exercise, a conservative technique for thickening tendons and nerves on the wrist and ultrasound, is the modality of therapy that produces sound waves. Objective: To find out the difference in effectiveness of the combination of nervous gliding exercise and ultrasound with ultrasound against CTS pain in workers. Research Method: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a two group pretest postest control design. Sampling techniques use purposive sampling according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. A large sample of 28 workers using a computer with a mouse and keyboard divided into 2 groups, namely the treatment group given a combination of nervous gliding exercise with ultrasound and control given ultrasound each 14 people. The variable bound to this study is carpal tunnel syndrome pain measured by Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Result: Average CTS pain before and after intervention in the treatment group sequentially before 5.64 after 2.50 with a p value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The average CTS pain before and after intervention in the control group was consecutive before 5.57 after 3.07 with a p value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The results of the hypothesis test using the Paired Sample T Test with a p value of 0.000 (p<0.05) and the test differ from the independent t-test due to the result of levene's homogeneous test data. The test results differ from the independent t the treatment and control group tests obtained a probability value of 0.247 (p>0.005). Conclusion: The average difference in intervention values in the treatment and control groups is equally effective against CTS pain, but in the treatment group the value is slightly greater than that of the control group.
