Abstract

Background: Stunting is a serious nutritional problem in Indonesia, which can hinder the growth and development of children under 1 year of age. One intervention that can be implemented to improve the growth and development of children at risk of stunting is through baby massage. This gentle massage is expected to stimulate the child's physical and emotional development and strengthen the bond between caregiver and child. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design and a two-group pretest-posttest. The study sample consisted of 26 children at risk of stunting selected using purposive sampling and divided into two groups: an intervention group that received baby massage and a control group that did not receive the intervention. The intervention was conducted for 4 weeks, three times a week. Growth was measured using weight and length, and development using Gross Motor Functional Measure (GMFM). Results: The study showed an increase in growth in the baby massage group from 8.37 to 10.18, an increase in growth in the control group from 8.14 to 9.06, an increase in development in the baby massage group from 52.19 to 61.6, and an increase in development in the control group from 46.30 to 55.59. Conclusion: There is a positive effect of baby massage on the growth and development of children at risk of stunting under 1 year of age, indicating that this technique can be an effective intervention in improving child health.
